I completed my run as Wonder Woman a few weeks ago. My camera got lost (stolen) and the shots are gone:( There are a few from another's camera, however! It was not as hard as I thought it would be. 5 miles in a cape, headband, and mini skirt was kind of fun!
As much as I enjoy running once I’ve started, sometimes the weekly 30-45 minute maintenance runs are sometimes harder to get going than the 10 mile weekend group runs. My motivation has been somewhat low the last few weeks and I can’t pinpoint a single reason why. There are several things that have probably factored in to the ridiculous dump that I’ve fallen into:
Ch, ch, ch, changes…new location, new (earlier) start time, new routines & rhythms
Burn out?
Daylight savings
Get over it, Hillary. Remember why you’re doing this (see 9/26/10 post). Last week I told myself I better get my rear in gear if I’m going to complete the 7 (or is it 8?) mile training run this Saturday. I had a plan to get back into my routine and complete the 2 required maintenance runs and maybe even include a cross training day!
So I did it. Maintenance run #1 for the week complete and it’s only Monday! As I ran, I clicked through the shuffle to find one of the songs that gets me going every time I hear it.
It says so many things. These are just a few that come to mind:
-I should feel good about taking care of my body through running and eating well (most of the time).
-I can feel good about using an activity I enjoy to, in a roundabout way, benefit the lives of many, many strangers I will never, ever meet.
-I can let go of any and all of the negative messages I have either heard in the past from others or told myself time and again.
What does this song say to you? ..It’s much more motivating if you actually listen to it!
Proud
By Heather Small
I look into the window of my mind
Reflections of the fears I know I’ve left behind
I step out of the ordinary
I can feel my soul ascending
I’m on my way
Can’t stop me now
And you can do the same, yeah
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
It’s never too late to try!
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
You could be so many people
If you’ll make that break for freedom
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
Still so many answers I don’t know (There are so many answers)
Realize that to question is how we’ll grow (to question is to grow)
So I step out of the ordinary
I can feel my soul ascending
I’m on my way
Can’t stop me now
And you can do the same, yeah
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
It’s never too late to try!
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
You could be so many people
If you’ll make that break for freedom
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
Yeah, we need a change, yeah
Do it today, yeah
I can feel my spirit rising
Change, yeah, we need a change, yeah
So do it today, yeah
Cause I can see a clear horizon!
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
Le me hear ya, let me hear ya, let me hear ya
So what have you done today to make you feel proud?
Cause you could be so many people
If you make that break for freedom
So what have you done today to make you feel proud?
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
You could be so many people
Just make that break for freedom
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
Now it’s Thursday and I still have to get that pesky 2nd maintenance run in for the week. It’s on! (Cross training - not so much!)
